SJH Dietitian is Nationally Recognized Expert
St. Joseph Home Dietitian Sarah Vermilyea was selected to review the 2nd Edition Pocket Guide to Children with Special Health Care and Nutritional Needs and also has contributed to a nutritional textbook.
She was selected by the editors of the pocket guide to review the latest edition, which was a two-month project. The guide is published by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietitians, the leading organization in the field.
She has also authored a chapter for the 5th edition of the standard text for the field, Pediatric Nutrition in Clinical Care. Her chapter is on nutritional assessment. In addition she has published an article for Supply Line, a specialty journal, on nutrition for children who are not in hospitals who use ventilators.
She is now working on a chapter for another textbook about nutrition for children with special needs.
In addition to being an in-demand author, she is also an expert presenter. Most recently she developed a presentation on bioethics for the 2020 Conference for the Council for Pediatric Nutrition Professionals.
At SJH Vermilyea works with nurses, case managers, therapists and other care team members to ensure residents’ nutritional care plans incorporate their individual needs and preferences.
St. Joseph Home CEO Dan Connors commented, “This is just one of the many ways our staff are contributing to the betterment not just of the people we serve, but other individuals with disabilities. Great job and congratulations Sarah!”
Vermilyea has an M.S. in Nutrition, and is a Registered and Licensed Dietitian with additional credentials in Pediatrics and Nutritional Support.
